Malotira or Cretan mountain tea is very popular in Greece. It is a tea variety from the Cretan mountains. It is known since ancient times by the name of Sideritis because it is rich in iron. Picked on the slopes of Mount Psiloritis in Crete, you can use it for preparing iced or traditional tea. This tea variety enjoys unique aromas and health benefits.

It is harvested in the months during May and June. Stimulating and diuretic, Cretan mountain tea strengthens the immune system against microbial attack and has antioxidant as well as anti-inflammatory elements. Thanks to the flavonoids it contains, this tea variety relieves the affections of a body’s circulatory system. Popular medicine recommends it as a diuretic and to combat indigestion, cold, and cough. This tea selection is infused with honey, oregano, and cinnamon and is apt to be used for fighting the diseases happening in the respiratory tract.


Chef’s Council

For 2 people, boil 1/2 liter of water. Then infuse 5g of tea (stems, leaves, and flowers) for 5 minutes. Sweeten with honey and serve with a few drops of lemon.
