Oregano (from the ancient Greek ὀρίγανον, which means “joy of the mountains”) is a plant that grows on sunny grounds, up to 1,000 meters above the sea level.

Its flavor is both floral and slightly bitter. It contains notes of lemon and a spicy tip that is a bit peppery but sweet. It is this very characteristic taste—barely minty—and its smell, immediately reminding the scrubland and the sunny days.
